We all looked forward to following this good form through to the major titles up for grabs in the second half of the season: the North Islands at Rotorua, The New Zealand Champs at Strafford, and the Dirt cup at Waikaraka Park.
On the 27th December the car went down to Rotorua for the North Island Champs, and this marked a bit of a turning point for the team.
Unfortunately at all of these big meetings for the Modifieds, we struck a run of bad luck, quickly terminating any prospect of following on the good results from early on the season.
After having had a couple of seasons free of major damage and roll overs, it all turned turtle especially at the New Zealand Champs and at the Dirt Cup with some major damage to the car resulting from rollovers and contact with the concrete wall.

As I understand it from long term crew member Big Al, this sort of thing was quite common when Scott and the team started racing many years ago.
We at Hi-Q more recent sponsors and committed fans of Scott became to wonder with all this happening, if retirement was on Scotty*s mind and he was executing his exit from the sport the same way he entered. However we have learnt this was not the case and it is just Motorsport and s%~t happens.
When it does happen I guess you just hope it does not go on for too long and cost too much money. It wasn*t nice either seeing David Lane*s beautifully made aluminium wings being flattened as quick as he was making them. With the wing stock completely depleted during the Dirt Cup meeting, the team was fortunate to be able to borrow one from #64 to complete the nights racing. But the car sure didn*t quite look right with it on.
With the big three meetings been and gone and a lot of damage to fix, the team looked positively to getting back on the track to turn things around at a couple of club meetings, before heading down to Christchurch for the third year in a row for the very popular Modified Invasion at Woodford Glen.
With some good prior publicity, there was some excitement growing amongst the fans who were looking forward to seeing some of Scotty*s exciting driving again. It was unfortunate last year, Saturday nights racing was cut short due to rain leaving Scotty with some unfinished business.

This is a two day Easter meeting, held yearly on Good Friday and Staturday. The main feature is the Modifieds, which quite a few visit from the North and south Island, hence the name of the feature race &the Modified Invasion*.
The visiting Modifieds included recent successful drivers from the NZ champs, 1NZ John Jackson, 3NZ Bunter Pierce and also local driver Glen Leech 2NZ completed the top three.
Well we are pleased to report that the team had a very successful two night race meeting at Woodford Glen. This is a great meeting to attend, run over the two nights it gives the Modifieds a good number of races and includes a pole shuffle which is always popular with the fans.
Winners of the heats included Bunter Pierce, Brian McPhee, Luke Keegan (2 heats) and Scott Lane.
Scott driving the Hi-Q car paced himself well over the two days to peak at the end of each night taking first place in Friday night*s finial and then for the Winner takes all final Modified Invasion feature race on Saturday.
This result will be a good confidence builder for the team, leading into next season. It was some good practice also on the Woodford Glen track which is holding the 2010 New Zealand Modified Champs early next year on 8th and 10th of January. Mark it in your Diary !
Well that*s it for the season. Thanks to Scott and the team for some very enjoyable racing and entertainment at the track this season. I am sure next season will come around as quick as this has gone by. Enjoy the break and we look forward to seeing you all refreshed and ready to go later this year.

Well, the team*s lead up to this meeting was going to be quite controlled, with mainly cosmetic touch ups to the car required, eg. finishing the decorative paintwork to the body, plus other minor improvements, but this all went out the window after meeting no.4 at Waikaraka park on the 29th of November.
If we were going to put a bad night together meeting no. 4 was probably a good one to do it on, and we did. It was just a normal night for the Modifieds with no trophies at stake, but some how like it happens sometimes the car ended up in the wrong spot at the wrong time and took a couple of good hits. Although the bumps were not necessarily spectacular, they sure caused a bit of damage to the steering linkages, front axle, wheel rims, not to mention wing damage as well.
Auckland Champs
So arriving at the track on Saturday night for the Auckland champs we were not surprised to learn the crew had been flat all day doing the last of the repairs on the damage from two weeks previously.
A total of nine cars turned out for the Auckland Champs, a fairly similar line up to the King of the Park. It was good to see Jamie Fox turn up for his first run at the Park this season. Jamie looks like he means business this year, his number 11 car was looking pretty cool and fresh sporting the new colour scheme. Glen Leech, driver from Woodford Glen track Christchuch was visiting in his bright yellow Modified.
Speaking of colour schemes , the Hi-Q car was looking pretty slick also, complete with the addition of it*s stylized flame motive along each side of the black body. Hopefully they are the only flames we see out the side of the car this season Scotty.
he Auckland champs format was pretty simple, three Heats, and the best of the three on points the winner.
Heat one saw Scotty starting near the rear of the field and based on recent form we hoped he would quickly race through the field to take the lead. However although the car made good progress through the field it did not seem to get up to pace on the heavy track and finished 5th. The Pacific Urethane cars finished 1 2, Paul Blakeley finishing Ist, Brian Jesen 2nd, and visiting driver Glen Leech 3rd.
Heat two, as the cars came out we hoped the Hi-Q car would find the form seen recently, and starting middle of the field we hoped for a clean way through. I don*t know what changes were made or whether the track had become less heavy but we certainly saw both driver and car put together that performance we have begun to expect this season, and saw late last season. Scott drove quickly to the front of the field and secured a good lead to win the second race, Jamie Fox finishing 2nd, and Glen Leech 3rd.
We did have anxious moments as the big wing on top of the car kept slipping down at the front of the car as the race progressed, would Scott be able to see If it slipped any further we thought, but fortunately Scott was able to maintain enough vision to last out the race.
The damage to the wing proved to be a result of further failure to the internal structure which was damaged at the previous meeting, requiring a replacement to be sourced to complete the nights racing.
Heat Three , Scott started second row back on the inside, at the green light he was off and it was not long to before the car was out in front and dominating the race. This was another great win for Scott, with Brian Jesen 2nd, and Jamie Fox 3rd .
So after three races there was only 1 point between First, Second and Third. Scott with his two wins and a fifth, took out the Auckland champs second year in a row, with Brian Jesen and Jamie fox second and third.
It*s been a good start to the season, Congratulations to the 19r team for some great results to date, we look forward to finishing the year well at the two last meetings of the year at :
Rotorua on the 27th December
Huntly on the 31st December - New Years Eve
If you are out and about on Holiday at those locations, come along for some great racing and meet Scott and the Crew and have a look at the car.
Have a great Xmas and New Year from all of us at Hi-Q
Following on from some good form shown at the King of the Park , opener night at Waikaraka Park, The Hi-Q Car went down for a run at the Stratford track.
The NZ Modified Champs are being held at the Stratford Speedway January 30 & 31, 2009, so the team were pleased to have a chance to give the car a run on the track and also line up for two trophies up for grabs on the night, the Taranaki Modified Champs and the Ginge Hayward Memorial for the Modifieds.
The Taranaki Champs date back to the Early 80*s and there are some well known previous winners including local multiple winner through the 80*s and early 90*s Murray Gordge.
Chassis builder for car, Trevor Ackers from Raceworks, made a special trip to assist the team and I am sure he was pleased to see the weather settle to allow the racing to go ahead for the night.
Stratford like all tracks has it*s particular characteristics and the visit certainly gave the team some good practice for the New Zealand Champs. We were all pleased to see Scott win his second Taranaki Champs title as well. Scott followed this up at the same meeting with a 2nd place in the Ginge Hayward Memorial for the Modifieds.
Congratulations Scott and the Team for a successful trip.
Following a long wet winter we welcomed the return of the big winged Modifieds back to the park for their first outing of the season last Saturday.
Because the opening night was rained out on 1st November it was actually the second meeting of the season at the park. The season kicked off on Election night 8th November with the spectacular fireworks race meeting which featured Ministocks, Saloons, Production Saloons, and Sidecars.
At the fireworks meeting on 8th November, Samantha Lane, young daughter of our Modified driver Scott Lane, had her first race meeting as a Ministock driver. Samantha showed great courage and determination mixing it with the big field of Ministocks on the night. Samantha followed this outing up last Saturday with another fine nights racing, showing that she was going to learn fast.
Good on you Samantha and all the best for this season.
Well last weekend was a big weekend, great weather saw hordes of people flocking to the Big Boys Toys show, and Saturday night promised a warm still night with some great racing.
The program for the night included several rained out fixtures from last season, 2007-2008 Auckland Super Saloon Championships, 2007-2008 Super Stock Championship, the inaugural World 290 Street Stock Championship and The King of the Park Modifieds.
Being early in the season there are some teams still to complete their cars leaving some notable omissions from the start line of the Modifieds. The good group of cars that did turn up included a good mix of new and seasoned competitors
Scott Lane driver of the Hi-Q Car having won King of the Park at Greymouth late last season was keen to make it a & pair of kings &.
The crew has been busy getting the car ready over the last few weeks. The work is almost complete with just some body paint work to finish off. There has been a bit of chrome work done and the once all the detailing to the paint work is done the car should be looking fantastic.
There was a bit of a unscheduled gearbox repair work required on race day that kept Scott and the team busy all day, so there was not much time to relax before it was off to the track for the night.
The King of the Park Modifieds fixture included three points races. The line up included the competitive Pacific Urethane cars of 3NZ Paul Blakeley and Brian Jeson, along with a number of the other locals, including new driver Grant Harris in the well turned out 64 car.
The three races turned on the exciting racing that the spectators expect to see from the big winged Modifieds. Driving the Hi-Q car built by Raceworks ,Scott took little time to settle in after a season off, winning the first two races with great style.
The first two races were not without incidents, the most notable being one of the Pacific Urethane cars doing some major engine damage. The Hi-Q car held together well despite some loose nuts and bolts that had to be dealt with after the first race.
Leading into the third and final race the Hi-Q car was well ahead on points and must have been crowd favourite to take the title out starting in pole position.
As the modifieds rounded Town bend leading into the starting straight, Scott in the Hi-Q car got a flyer of a start from his pole position to place an early lead on the field. The Hi-Q car managed to stretch the lead further and further as race progressed with both driver and car demonstrating a clean tidy and fast performance. The shortened field of cars that started the final race was further depleted during the race following an unfortunate spin by Phil Crump on Town Bend which ended up taking his car out along with Ron Drake*s car. This was bad luck for Phil, who had been having a great night on his new engine and was second on points leading into the final race.
All in all it was a great first nights racing of the season for the Modifieds.
The Hi-Q car is looking good and should be very competitive this season.
The team plan to head down to Stratford speedway this weekend Saturday 22nd November to give the Hi-Q car a run around the track that the Modified New Zealand Champs will be held early next year.
Upon returning from Stratford the car will under go some final preparation to get ready for the Auckland Modified Champs scheduled for 13th December at Waikaraka Park.
