Hi-Q is proud to sponsor the unique and innovative project designed and built by Shiqi (Shelley) Lin Mitchell Hamish Round and Sung Yun Kong
The 2000+ Piece is a second year Architecture project from the University of Auckland. It is based on the idea of combining sound with architecture.
Our team wants to create an architectural piece cladded in such a way that the surface could change and deform, as one interacts with it.
By controlling 98 switches on a hand model of the larger form, the audience is able to control 98 separate motors, which moved 98 different panels.
Space is therefore transformed through sounds created by motors, gears and switches, as well as sounds released from within the skeleton when panels are displaced

We used 500 plastic nuts and bolts supplied by Hi-Q. These joined the skeleton of the project, providing a stable platform for our design as well as eliminating the risk of any of the 1500 meters of electrical cable shorting, as they may have done with metal screws. Hi-Q also supplied us with 17 strips of wire connectors which allowed for easy cable management, connecting 98 switches to their respective motors.
We thank Hi-Q for their sponsorship in the fabrication of our project.
